A CoBRA jawan who was kidnapped by Naxals during the Bijapur assault final week has been released, information company ANI quoted police sources as saying.
The household of Commando Rakeshwar Singh Minhas was in deep shock after the information of the lethal ambush and his disappearance broke out.
At least 22 safety personnel have been killed within the assault on the CoBRA battalion of CRPF by the Naxals who claimed that that they had kidnapped Minhas after the ambush.
On Tuesday, Naxals had released an announcement whereby they claimed that the CoBRA commando was of their custody. The two-page letter, penned by the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), acknowledged that the outfit was keen to barter with the Centre. It additionally requested the federal government to nominate a mediator to barter for the discharge of Manhas.
“One jawan is in our custody. We are ready to negotiate with the government. They can announce mediators. We will release him (captive jawan). Police jawans are not our enemies,” the outfit had stated within the letter.
Meenu, the spouse of Minhas, had appealed to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to take up the matter with the Union authorities and urge the prime minister and residential minister for his secure return.
